Detail-Oriented Finish Work · EPA RRP Lead-Safe · 14-Day Hardwood Acclimation

Massachusetts Interior Finish Work Done Right.

Hardwood floor installation and refinishing, tile, interior painting, handyman services, junk removal. The detail-oriented interior trades that finish a renovation after the heavy work is done — done by Massachusetts-licensed crews who care whether your tile is square and your paint cut-in is straight.

Interior specialty trades in Massachusetts are 80% of what you actually see and touch in a renovation — yet most contractors treat them as afterthoughts. Hardwood floor sanding swirl marks, tile cut-in to baseboards that's wavy, paint roller marks on flat ceilings — these are visible every day for the next 20 years. Boston housing predates 1978 in most of the urban core, which means EPA RRP lead-safe procedures on every wall sand, baseboard prep, or finish-carpentry disturbance. We hold the Schluter-certified installer credential for waterproof tile assemblies, EPA RRP for lead-safe painting, and bring detail-oriented finish carpenters with 10+ years on tools.

Why Interior Finish Work Is Different

  1. Pre-1978 housing means lead. Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and most older MA towns have lead paint. EPA RRP-certified containment is required for any sanding, scraping, or cutting that disturbs painted surfaces. Generic handymen aren't certified.
  2. Tile in wet areas needs Schluter. Massachusetts bathrooms freeze-thaw seasonally even with heat. Without proper waterproofing (Schluter Kerdi membrane, Ditra uncoupling), tile fails within 5–10 years. We're Schluter-certified.
  3. Hardwood in MA needs proper acclimation. Wide humidity swings (15% RH winter to 70% RH summer) cup and gap hardwood that wasn't properly acclimated and sanded. Dustless sanding equipment + 14-day acclimation make the difference.
  4. Interior paint cut-in is judged daily. A line that's 1/8" wavy at the ceiling reads as cheap forever. We don't subcontract — our painter does the cut-in by hand.

Cross-Trade Coordination

  • Specialty + kitchen / bathroom remodel. Tile, paint, and flooring are the final 30% of any kitchen/bath. We sequence after plumbing rough-in, electrical, drywall — but before fixtures.
  • Hardwood refinishing + interior painting. Always paint walls before refinishing floors — drips and roller spatter can't be sanded out cleanly. We sequence properly.
  • Junk removal + whole-home renovation. Construction debris, demo waste, removed cabinetry — bundled with the project so the homeowner doesn't book separately.
  • Handyman + electrical + plumbing. Handyman covers small repairs not requiring a license. For licensed-only work (electrical, plumbing, gas), we route to the appropriate trade.

Specialty FAQs

Massachusetts Interior Questions Answered.

Do you refinish hardwood floors in Massachusetts?

Yes. Sanding, staining, and finishing of existing hardwood floors. Dustless sanding equipment (vacuum-attached belt sanders + edgers). Water-based and oil-based polyurethane. Typical 1,000 sq ft refinish: 3–4 days from start to walkable surface.

What flooring materials do you install?

Hardwood (red oak, white oak, hickory, maple), engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), porcelain and ceramic tile, natural stone, carpet. Solid hardwood acclimated 14 days to Massachusetts humidity before install — critical to prevent cupping and gapping in MA's seasonal RH swings.

Are interior painting estimates free?

Yes. Free in-home estimate covering wall prep (drywall repair, sanding, priming), trim work, ceiling, and 2-coat application. Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura as standard finishes. EPA RRP lead-safe procedures on pre-1978 homes (most of Boston's housing stock).

Do you handle handyman services or only large projects?

Both. Handyman services for small repairs, mounting, fixture replacement, door adjustment — 2-hour booking minimum, no trip charge. Larger remodels coordinated through our Construction silo. Anything requiring a Massachusetts trade license (electrical, plumbing, gas, HVAC) routes to the appropriate licensed trade in-house.

Can you do tile installation including showers?

Yes. Backsplash, bathroom walls, shower surrounds, floors. Porcelain, ceramic, glass mosaic, natural stone (marble, travertine, slate). Schluter Kerdi waterproofing system for wet areas — the gold standard for tile shower assemblies. Ditra uncoupling membrane for floors over wood substrate.

Do you handle junk removal?

Yes. Construction debris, appliance removal, furniture and bulk junk. Often bundled with renovation projects to clear the work area before crews arrive. Massachusetts DEP-compliant disposal — we sort recyclables, route metals to scrap, and dispose only what can't be recycled.

How long should hardwood floors acclimate before installation?

In Massachusetts: minimum 14 days in the install location at the home's normal seasonal humidity (typically 35–50% RH). Skipping acclimation = cupping in summer (high humidity) or gapping in winter (low humidity). It's the #1 cause of hardwood callbacks. We don't compromise on this.

What about EPA RRP for pre-1978 homes?

Federal EPA RRP rule requires lead-safe certified containment for any work disturbing painted surfaces in pre-1978 homes. Most Boston-area housing predates 1978. We're EPA RRP certified and follow lead-safe protocols on every applicable project — plastic containment, HEPA vacuum cleanup, tested clearance before reoccupancy.
